Vintage Story Leatherworking, Tanning, and Pelt Guide
Follow the Vintage Story hide-to-leather workflow with size-based yields, soaking liquids, barrel capacity, tannin stages, and separate fat-cured pelt requirements.
Hide size and leather yield
Hide size controls both the liquid required during preparation and the final leather yield. Use the table before combining several hides in a barrel.
The leatherworking workflow
Leather requires several ordered barrel treatments. Finish each stage before moving the prepared hide into the next liquid.
Pelt curing is a separate workflow
Pelts use fat instead of tannin and do not follow the full leather sequence. Plan their hide and fat requirements independently.
Frequently asked questions
How much leather does each hide produce?
Yield depends on hide size. The calculator and table use the game data for small, medium, large, and huge hides.
Can I skip weak tannin?
No. Prepared hides pass through weak tannin before strong tannin, so both liquids and their barrel capacity must be included.
Are pelts made with the leather workflow?
No. Pelt curing uses raw hides and fat as a distinct workflow rather than lime, scraping, and two tannin stages.
